Introduction
Research group “Plasma Spectroscopies, Hyphenation&Speciation” develops new tools based based on analytical plasmas i.e. ICP-MS, ICP-OES and laser-induced plasma, so called LIBS. The objectives are to quickly identify the nature of a sample from a specific spectral fingerprint, to access traces of target metals and elements in complex samples originating from the environment, new materials or biological samples.
Research areas
Identifying the nature and origin of certain materials is an important issue addressed by our research. Our expertise allows us to develop original tools to study:
- The geographic origin of different materials such as teas, wines … by combining spectral information obtained using LIBS and ICP-HRMS
- Characterizing the nature, composition, and size of micro- and nanoparticles using SP-ICP-MS/MS
Research projects
- The RENOV project (2023-2027, Recycling and Reincorporation of Elastomeric Materials),is funded by the French government, as part of the France 2030 plan (operated by ADEME and financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU), involves four partners: Elkem, Hutchinson, Nexans, and the Claude Bernard University of Lyon 1 (IMP, CP2M & ISA). It aims to develop a circular economy model for plastics in order to limit their environmental impact, through their collection, recycling, and reintroduction into the manufacturing chain. The SPCS team is in charge of the solid analysis WP, particularly by LIBS spectrometry.
- CODETEX project funded by the AURA region (2021-2024), this project aims to develop a new protocol for the primary decontamination of firefighters’ fire-resistant textiles, with particle monitoring, their nature, and concentration at the decontamination outlet. LIBS technology and a new SP-ICP-MS method for analyzing these carbon-based particles are being studied.
- Ultra-trace analysis in complex crystals to confirm the quality and origin of the crystals with the Cristal’Innov platform
- Collaboration with the IMP Laboratory (IMP, UMR 5233) on monitoring the development and monitoring of “magnetoliposome” nanoparticles. (OPTIMAG-SP-ICP-MS project).
