Surface and miniaturisation for analytical research and technology (SMART)

In charge of SMART :

Description of SMART research area :

SMART brings together the human and instrumental resources of four research groups to develop advanced analytical methodologies and miniaturized devices for the rapid and sensitive detection of molecules and/or the detailed characterization of objects, surfaces, or interactions.

The devices developed include chemical sensors and biosensors, integrated separation systems, microsystems, lab-on-a-chips, which will be used for rapid testing and high-throughput analyses in controlled or complex laboratory environments, or for analyses in a variety of environments (online, on-site, in vivo).

The developments draw on the groups’ internationally recognized expertise in the development of new materials with specific properties (organic, inorganic, and composite), in surface engineering (micro- and nanopatterning, chemical functionalization, and biofunctionalization), as well as in the detailed characterization of surfaces, innovative nanotechnology methods, and the integration of analytical systems.

The groups’ research activities provide analytical solutions in a wide range of application areas, including healthcare (point-of-care diagnostics, early diagnosis, e-health, protein/ligand interaction screening), food safety (contaminant detection), and environment (pollutant or biomarker detection).
