The MULTIMOD technical platform provides technical support to ISA research teams in two areas: formulation and the development of couplings between chromatography and mass spectrometry.
This dual expertise enables a wide range of multidisciplinary projects to be carried out, from the development of new formulations to the characterisation of molecules. Depending on the specific or ongoing needs of each team, the platform’s staff develop analytical methods: from sample preparation and method development to data processing and interpretation.
With its specialised technical staff, MULTIMOD is involved in the implementation and optimisation of innovative couplings between liquid chromatography (UHPLC, microLC, nanoLC) or gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (low resolution and/or high resolution), with or without ion mobility or laser photodissociation.
The platform also provides physico-chemical characterisation of molecules using various techniques (rheology, particle size analysis, turbidimetry, surface tension).
Dedicated to providing technical support to ISA research teams, MULTIMOD covers various fields of analysis, including metabolomics, proteomics, lipidomics and formulation. It enables the characterisation of small and large molecules in aqueous and/or biological matrices. It has a wide range of applications, including the environment, health, biology, cosmetics and materials.
Equipment
The ISA has an extremely rich and varied range of analytical equipment, including mass spectrometers, chromatographic chains, UV and IR detectors, rheometers and granulometers.
The technical staff of the MULTIMOD platform has access to the analytical equipment specific to the various ISA research teams (see the section on Experimental and Instrumental Capabilities for each team), which allows for a wide range of analytical possibilities.
The staff also has access to the technical platform dedicated to teaching Formulation in the Berthollet building located on the Doua campus.
Results
MULTIMOD is involved in the following projects:
2025:
- LIDOGLYC project (led by Marion Girod – ANABIOMS): characterisation of O-GlcNAcylation sites by mass spectrometry combined with laser photodissociation.
- Project led by Emmanuelle Vulliet (TRACES) and Karine Faure (CHROMATOGRAPHY ET TECHNIQUES COUPLEES): Evaluation of using ‘green’ solvents for the analysis of micro-pollutants using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.
- D-Squam project (led by Marion Girod – ANABIOMS): Characterisation of Atopic Dermatitis using high and low mass spectrometry.
2024
- Project in partnership with SERVIER (led by Vincent Dugas – TECHNIQUES SÉPARATIVES): coupling low affinity nano chromatography with mass spectrometry.
- PEPOD project (led by Jérôme Lemoine – ANABIOMS): identification of proteins involved in pre-eclampsia in the urine of pregnant women using high-resolution mass spectrometry.
