Communication “Science with and for society”

Marion Girod (AnabioMS group) is interested in the analysis of oxidized proteins using innovative mass spectrometry techniques coupled with photo-dissociation, notably as part of the ANR HyLOxi project. This method enables specific and sensitive targeting of proteic cysteines oxidation, which are deregulated due to oxidative stress associated to various diseases (such as neurodegenerative). For this, the oxidized cysteines are chemically labelled with a specific chromophore and photofragmented within the mass spectrometer. Comparative measurements of protein cystein oxidation level in biological samples from healthy individuals and patients with Alzheimer’s disease allow us to envisage ‘New perspectives for the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases’.
